Homily: Easter Sunday

March 31, 2024

Easter is the greatest and the most crucial celebration in the Church. It marks the beginning of our eternal hope. "Easter" literally means "the feast of fresh flowers." In other words, it celebrates life and hope as fresh flowers. The founder of no other religion had an empty tomb as Jesus did. We see the fulfillment of Christ's promise in the empty tomb. After the disciples found the tomb empty, Jesus began to appear to His disciples many times. Those apparitions are strong proofs of His Resurrection. After those apparitions and receiving the anointing of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, the Apostles preach the Risen Lord untiringly in many places. Today's Gospel describes the empty tomb Resurrection experience of Mary Magdalene, Peter, and John. Later, in the same chapter, Mary Magdalene proclaims her personal experience to the Disciples: "I have seen the Lord" (20:18). His Resurrection confirms the truth of Jesus' divinity. Saint Paul says: "If Christ has not been raised, then empty too is our preaching; empty to our faith." (1 Cor 15,14).

Let us live the lives of Resurrected people along with Christ. We are not supposed to lie buried in the tomb of our sins or doubts about God. Instead, we are expected to live a joyful and peaceful life of new people who constantly experience the living presence of the Risen Lord. Also, let us have a firm conviction of the Real Presence of the Risen Lord with us, within us, and all around us.

Happy Easter!
