Homily: Palm Sunday

March 24, 2024

Today is Palm Sunday. It is the Sunday in Lent that marks the beginning of Holy Week. Palm Sunday celebrates Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem's royal city. This entry is highly symbolic. It demonstrates that Christ is the king who fulfilled the ancient prophecy of Isaiah that says: "His dominion is vast and forever upon David's throne and over His kingdom". (Isaiah 9, 6).

Our beginning today has two reasons. First, to honor Christ as He enters the royal city: Jerusalem. Hence, we will sing: "Hosanna to the son of David, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord." Second, we should express our solidarity with Christ as He begins the journey leading to our salvation. So, as we sing hosanna today, we must ask Christ for the grace to remain faithful to Him until the end of our lives.

Peace be with You!
